K2 GRC today announced an expansion of its artificial intelligence capabilities with the launch of K2 Assist AI, an AI-powered assistant built directly into the K2 GRC platform, alongside K2 GRC Readiness Review and the new K2 GRC AI Skill and MCP Server, which extend K2 GRC capabilities beyond the platform.
K2 GRC's guiding AI design principles include, providing clients deployment flexibility, security and control, while delivering scale to their GRC workforce and program. K2 GRC President Thomas Lyden emphasized, “If we can’t save you an FTE, I’ll give you your money back.”
K2 Assist AI transforms the K2 GRC platform into an action-oriented powerhouse that goes far beyond simple text generation. By leveraging intuitive natural language processing, K2 Assist AI can support and execute many of the same activities users would otherwise perform manually within the platform, empowering governance, risk, compliance and training teams to automate complex workflows, instantly visualize system data, seamlessly work through compliance requirements at the control level, crosswalk frameworks and identify gaps, create and assign training, and create, assess and manage quantitative risk scenarios through K2 GRC’s FAIR-based risk capabilities.
Designed with enterprise-grade flexibility and security in mind, K2 GRC gives organizations control over how AI is deployed across both Commercial Cloud and GovCloud environments. Whether an organization is ready to use K2 Assist AI natively, prefers to leverage external AI tools already approved within its environment through K2 GRC’s AI Skill and MCP Server, or isn’t ready to enable AI at all, K2 GRC allows customers to adopt AI according to their own security, compliance and governance requirements.
The release also introduces K2 GRC Readiness Review, a new feature powered by GRC Engineering Club, Readiness Review dramatically speeds up organizational performance gap assessments against applicable compliance frameworks, including evaluating cloud provider configurations against framework requirements.
By analyzing cloud provider configurations alongside organizational evidence and documentation, Readiness Review helps identify control gaps, assess implementation status and surface areas that may require additional attention or remediation.
By incorporating GRC Engineering Club's technology and combining it with K2 GRC's existing framework management, crosswalking and evidence capabilities, organizations can move in near real time from understanding a requirement to evaluating their current readiness, identifying potential gaps and addressing those gaps within a connected compliance workflow.
K2 Assist AI was designed with the security and compliance requirements of K2 GRC customers in mind.
K2 Assist AI was designed with no connection to the external internet and to operate in “Plan” mode, so organizations retain control. For customers with policies, contractual requirements, or security and compliance concerns that restrict the use of artificial intelligence, K2 Assist AI is entirely optional and can be disabled within the platform.
This approach allows organizations to adopt AI according to their own governance requirements and risk tolerance rather than making AI a mandatory component of the K2 GRC experience.
K2 GRC AI Skill and MCP Server, enable organizations that want to incorporate K2 GRC into their existing AI workflows, extending K2 GRC capabilities to compatible external AI assistants, agents and agentic platforms.
The K2 GRC AI Skill provides compatible AI assistants and agents, with platforms such as Claude, with specialized instructions and context for working with K2 GRC, while the MCP Server provides a standardized way for supported AI systems to connect to and interact with K2 GRC capabilities.
Together, these technologies allow organizations to access and execute K2 GRC capabilities through their existing supported AI environments, enabling governance, risk, compliance and training activities to become part of broader agentic workflows without limiting organizations to a single AI provider or interface.
Together, K2 Assist AI, K2 GRC Readiness Review and K2 GRC’s new AI integrations represent a broader approach to artificial intelligence: AI should do more than provide information. It should help teams scale, evaluate their programs, identify what needs attention and execute the work required to manage governance, risk, compliance and training.
From creating and assigning training to drafting policies, crosswalking framework requirements, analyzing system information, assessing compliance readiness and managing quantitative risk scenarios, K2 GRC's expanding AI capabilities are designed to reduce the manual effort involved in turning governance, risk and compliance requirements into action.
Thomas Lyden, continued:
“Organizations shouldn't have to choose between taking advantage of AI and maintaining control over how that technology interacts with their governance and compliance programs. K2 Assist AI gives teams a way to use AI where the work is already happening, while giving each organization control over whether and how those capabilities are enabled.”
K2 Assist AI, K2 GRC Readiness Review, the K2 GRC AI Skill and the K2 GRC MCP Server are available now.
K2 GRC provides an integrated platform for governance, risk, compliance and workforce training. The platform helps organizations manage compliance requirements, policies, evidence, risk, training and related workflows across frameworks and regulatory requirements including CMMC, NIST, HIPAA, ISO 27001 and others.
